Scholarships for South Sudanese Students

• In November 2022, Ethiopia increased the number of scholarships for South Sudanese students from 100 to 150.
• For the 2023/2024 academic year, Ethiopia granted scholarships to 120 South Sudanese students for undergraduate, TVET, BSc, postgraduate and PhD programs.
• In June 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education in South Sudan announced 188 additional scholarship opportunities from Ethiopia, including 160 for undergraduates, 25 for Masters, and 3 for PhD studies.

Scholarship Coverage

• The scholarships cover tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses for South Sudanese students in Ethiopia.
• Students are expected to pay for visa, resident permit, and air ticket to Ethiopia.

Eligibility Criteria

• South Sudanese citizenship is required.
• For undergraduate programs, applicants need a Certificate for Secondary Education dated 2022-2023 and its equivalent, an authenticated transcript, and an academic certificate.
• Masters students must submit their authenticated undergraduate transcripts and certificates.
• PhD applicants need to submit their Masters thesis in hard and soft copies for scrutiny.
• Other requirements include a valid passport, birth certificate, medical fitness certificate, and passport-sized photos.

Application Process

• The application process for the 188 scholarships announced in June 2024 started on June 27, 2024 and will end on July 10, 2024.
• Certificates obtained in South Sudan must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while those obtained outside the country need endorsement by the South Sudan embassy before authentication.
